I recently started frame off of my truck in October. Since then I started to tear into my engine. (79 F150 Styleside Custom 302 ci with automatic C4 transmission). I first started to remove the top and front end of it. It came to a point to just remove the engine. The transmission was rebuilt last year by Jasper. No issue with transmission at all. Ran great. I disconnected the engine from the transmission. After disconnecting the engine, I noticed many unknown items that were located at the lower back edge of the block. Noticed after I took off the both flex plate and block plate. I know the didn’t come from the front input shaft of the C4. I know didn’t come from the torque converter. So please look at this picture and let me know. So far I discovered a sloppy timing chain and bad vibration damper. Unknown metal parts located
Well it looks like it was the left over from the last starter I replaced a few years ago. It was a quick two bolt removal and install from under the truck. I just can’t believe the shop that removed and installed a rebuilt transmission didn’t see them. It wouldn’t be seen unless they removed the block plate. I check out my current starter. It’s good!
Well there is no way to get the motor plate off unless the bell housing / transmission (C4) was pulled as it would be sitting at the bottom of the bell housing.
Maybe the trans shop put them back in there to Fxxx with you?
Are you sure the starter was not replaced after the transmission was done as I cant see the shop putting them back in.
I wonder if they had a starter blow up on them and they just replaced it to get the truck out?
The starter you changed did it blow up or just did not work?

I’m 100% positive that my starter was replaced before I took the C4 in to be overhauled. I know how the engine and other parts bolt together. I had to take the truck back to the shop due to the transmission was leaking fluid out the tail shaft seal. After that repair, I had no issues with the truck going down the road. I keep records of repairs to my truck. I’m so **** that I put a date and sign my name on various parts including the oil filter when it’s changed. I do so because if I’m in a time crunch and need work, I can tell if the work has been done. People have been screwed over the years on repairs that were said done but not especially an oil filter. The starter goes through the block plate and meshes with the starter as you know. Parts of… found… parts of … removed. My current starter included teeth look great. No issues!!! My old starter didn’t work correctly. It didn’t really help with the leaking oil pan gasket. My dad had the truck since it came off the line. The starter was a well built beefy one of those years. It finally gave out. I don’t do business with that shop anymore.
