Flexplate

I have just broke my 3rd flexplate in 6 years. Does anyone know of a good aftermarket flexplate that doesn't cost a fortune? I have found one for around $750, but that is a little higher than I can buy right now.

I've tried. Tranny is a little over a year old. New torque converter. No play in crankshaft.

I am assuming you have locating dowels in the engine block?

Where is the flex plate breaking?

There is a TSB about this. I'll try and search it out.

Yes. Everything is aligned and tight. It breaks around the reinforcement plate. I found article No. 99-23-6 that talks about the issue. I need to purchase new Flywheel Reinforcement Plate, Crankcase Spacer and Engine Spacer.

Sounds like you have a balancing issue, how is the Harmonic damper doing, is it loose or broken? Is the plate breaking right around the center out from the bolt holes?

I am running an ATS billet flexplate only because i picked it up for $400 and plan on running 4500 rpm, and it's just insurance. But, if you keep breaking these stock flex plates at a moderately low HP level, something else is wrong, and a billet flexplate will just mask it

Yep, right around the bolts. I am trying to track down the parts Ford references in the TSB. Something is out of alignment.

Just installed all the new parts from the TSB. She's up and running again. The crankshaft adapter had a groove around the outside of the old one. New one is straight all across. Groove probably from the other breaks. All parts seem to go together a lot tighter. Hopefully this will cure it for good. Won't know for sure for at least a year.

Glad you've got it fixed. Thanks for letting us know what you found.
