OMG I thought this day would never come
ITS IN.
last night i did it. i got the new engine into my truck. it was about 14 degrees out when i was done so the plumbing and electrical will have to wait for after the holidays. the trans is cocked a little so it isn't keying in perfectly but the flywheel and torque converter are bolted together.
had just a few issues getting it in. 1 being a motor mount that did give up to a blow torch and impact gun ... so i had to remove it the hard way with a grinder ... from the top.
I also just noticed how bad the timing chain on the old 302 was. i am guessing this thing was the original motor. 250,000 miles

If the bell housing isn't already on its alignment pins at least part way, the bell housing is still distance of the pins+ away from the block? you're probably gonna regret doing that already, securing the TC to the flywheel.
Should have left the TC all the way back in the trans until the bell housing mated with the block, then and only then bringing TC forward to bolt it to the flex plate.
