Sliding rear window leaks

Cab was smelling musty, had already put the elbow on the AC condensate and checked there first. Carpet behind rear window wet. Did hose test and sure enough, coming through sliding rear window seal.

Anyone else? Assume only resolution is replacing the entire back window. I might delete the slider and just do a solid window. Don't use it much in FL anyways.

Comments and thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Sadly, the rear window is bonded in like a windshield. Another probability is that your 3rd brake light gasket is leaking, rather than the window.

I figured it was bonded - thanks.

Ruled out 3rd brake light with a water test, it's absolutely the window...

I guess if you never use it (me either), you could always caulk it sealed shut....

Didn't even think to do this - thank you for the suggestion! Might just give this a try. If it seals up and no leaks will just leave it. A whole lot cheaper than replacement

If you go this route, I'd pull fuse 102 as well

Edit: I would certainly look very hard that there was just not some goofy debris in the channel causing a poor seal.

Thanks, checked for debris and couldn't find anything that would be causing this. Didn't want to waste any time - taped off the slider left about 1/8" grabbed some black GE 2 silicone and filled the entire under if the gasket and hit the top as well. Disconnected the window motor and pulled fues 102.

We'll see how it works in the next rainstorm. NOT pretty but I don't care as long as it works.

Thanks again for the suggestion will report back

This is where the water was leaking into if anyone is curious

Doesn't look bad, after it gets weathered no-one will ever know. Sad the quality is so poor it leaks so soon.

The rear windows and the sunroofs on these trucks were definitely a step back for Ford. These items worked for decades with few problems, until someone tried to reinvent the wheel.

Just to close the loop on this - haven't had any water ingress since applying the silicone. Had a few heavy rain storms and did a water test as well. Not the ideal fix for everyone, but if you don't use the rear slider and don't want to spend the money to replace it's a cheap alternative.

Thanks again @SpencerPJ for the suggestion

Just don't list 'rear sliding window' when time to sell or trade.
