Amp steps install without going through OBD 2 plug

Does anyone know how to wire the Powersteps (aftermarket installed) directly to the appropriate place on the right wiring harness, so I don’t have to plug the steps into the OBD port or use a splitter? I use an Edge Insight and currently have to use a splitter so that the Amp steps will work while using the Insight. I’d like the Insight to plug directly into the OBD 2. Anyone know. Mine’s a 2019 F350 Lariat. I get some periodic irregularities in the Insight, and I’d like to isolate it from the splitter and the Amp steps.

Been a while since I read this thread, but this guy was able to add the OEM steps as if they were installed at the factory. I would think you could find a way to substitute OEM for the AMP steps.

I remember Anibal’s thread. I remember being amazed at his work. I did go ahead and re-skimmed it. I’m just not savvy enough to discern how his oem installation can help me. I’ve had my Amp steps installed for three years now but just want to get it wired some way other than through the OBD2 connector so my Edge Insight is all that’s plugged in there. Thanks for pointing me to Anibal’s masterpiece.

you world have to use the ford controller and splice into the CAN. Then use the power out of the module to control the amp steps.

And that won't work because the AMP step motors are not the same as the OEM step motors. The OEM motors have sensors inside to determine if they are deployed or not. Ask me how I know...

There is a way to wire the Amp controller to use a grounding input from each door via a switch to toggle the board to retract and deploy. The door switch simply applies a ground to the wire when the door is opened. Verify the color of your controller door input wiring - it may have changed. There is a thread on here somewhere with pictures of the door switches installed but I can't find it. I saved the switch info and wiring info on my PC but not the install photos.

EDIT - This is the thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...owersteps.html

You can use these door switches to make a nice, OEM-looking install.

This is the wiring schematic to avoid using the OBDII port. Ensure your wiring colors for your particular controller.
