I built a lamp cord. I learned from my dad to stock household repair items. I already had a spool of cord, the switch, and a plug. So I was thinking that I should restock what I just used. Holy inflation. Wire has doubled in price. The small parts have tripled. For DIY guys, like me, they buy one or two of these things - it won't make much difference. I can only imagine the materials cost going from $100,000 to $250,000 on a construction job.
Some things in life have gone down in price. Cell phones. I remember $2,500 cell phones, and bills that were around $100 + you had to pay for every minute. Computers have dropped from thousands of dollars, to under $100. Ceramic knives were endorsed by TV chefs and sold for around $200. Harbor Freight has a ceramic knife for $10 or $12. Then you hear all of these reports from retailers on how revenue has gone up, they are taking in more money than ever, but the profit margins have gone down. I know that Warren Buffett is still getting richer, every time I shop at Costco.
If you go to Home Depot (and maybe Lowes, don't know them well), you can get a short length of lamp cord for just a few dollars. You probably don't need more than 6 or 8 feet.for about 50 cents per foot.
Alternatively, you could get something like this for $10.38. It has the plug and the switch. All you have to do is cut off the socket at one end and wire it in.
The laptop will be repaired for free. They will even reduce my cost of the return UPS label. I just need to take photos of it, and back everything up on my computer. The take it to a UPS store and wait for it to arrive, be repaired, and then shipped back. There currently is no ETA since they don't have it yet. I will just have to make sure I have everything backed up. I doubt they need to reformat the drive just to replace a hinge though. Still better to be safe than sorry.
My SO and I are up in Humboldt for a little "family time". Sitting here maybe 200 feet above Salmon Creek in the fog. Opened the front door, and promptly closed it again. It's colder than the proverbial brass jock strap out there!
Happy Sunday Nor Cal. Hope everyone has a blessed day.

A gorgeous but cool day up here. Got out for some good time with the kid and then came home so he had some daylight to finish installing headlights and corner marker lights on the Bronco. He couldn’t have done it during class time.
We left Humboldt yesterday morning (late), and got home late. Stopped in Hopland for a Burgers my Way burger. They make great burgers, and it's kind of a tradition for us to stop there as it is approximately at the halfway point.
My SO got woken at 2:34 this morning by an earthquake alert. We didn't feel it here, but the brother-in-law in Humboldt said it about knocked him out of bed.
