Fuel Filter housing sensor?

I've got 7.3 in an '88 ford F350.
Started leaking at the top of the fuel filter housing around a plastic sensor in the top of the housing.
I can't find anything on this sensor..
New housing are sold with just a hole there.
I've asked sellers what goes there and I get no reply. What is it for?
Looking at the pictures online it doesn't appear the be a treaded hole. It also looks like you wouldn't be able to get a nut on the bottom.
Is it just pressed in there. Should I just press it out and put some gasket sealer on it and press it back in?
It hasn't been hooked up to anything for the 10 plus years I've owned the truck.

Thanks, That tells me what I need to know. So that's a fuel filter heater. I had seen the pictures of it and didn't know what I was looking at.
I'll have to see if I can now find the wire that went to it.
My guess is that that wire should show voltage, but only when the temperature is down to a certain degrees?
If that's the case I wonder how cold would it need to be to test it?
Or would this heater contain the on and off switch and the wire be hot when ever the key is on?

you do not need the heater.
clean the top of the filter off REAL GOOD. than cover the whole area with JB Weld.

Some people even tap the hole and put in a pipe plug.
I have an 86, so that year did not have the Fuel Heater
so don`t really have any knowledge of working on one.
Seems to be an easy fix if you want to keep it working, if
the parts are available.

Always wondered why Ford put the Heater on the top, as
heat rises, and should be on the bottom.

Heaters are available. About $15 and up for a Chinese one to $150 for an OEM.
I did like tjc said and ground it down flat and used some JB that I had that would have gone bad if I didn't use it soon.
Easy fix and cost no money.
