Fuel Filter sensor connection?

When I was replacing the return lines on my E350 I noticed there was a wire with two connectors that was not connected to anything. There is a green wire with a round connector that seems to fit into sensor on the fuel filter/water separator unit but I'm not sure. There is also a black wire with something that looks like a small rectangular connector that looks like it might be broken off. They both merge into the loom at the same point. Can anyone what these are?

On my 91 7.3 idi there is a small oval type plug that connects directly to the top of the fuel filter housing. I took the top if the filter housing apart because I had a small leak coming out of the hole where the small plug connects. I found that the two terminals run to a round pice of metal that covers the top of the filter, this piece is used as a fuel heater, and makes no change whether it's working or not. Hope the helps you.
