Two solar panels installed. Front panel is 20w for my starter battery. There is VSR to regulate and charge the rear battery via the alternator as well. The back is a 50w panel to trickle charge my aux battery on the 3000w inverter. Easiest mount. Just use stainless steel tie wrap amd mount to the roof rack. mounted a voltage meter on the battery box.
Doesn't the VSR just open once it senses a charging source from either side? That would also require 2 separate charge controllers. I'd just use one large panel wired in to my starter battery with the VSR wired to the auxiliary so that the auxiliary battery charges when the truck is running or from a solid solar charge input. Either way, I guess that works as is!
I guess we all "think" about doing these things, but never do it. Curious, what problem are you solving or what more importantly, what new functionality are you adding? What could you plug in operate, and how long?
I have actually had a 25 watt panel on mine for some time, also mounted on the roof rack, but my roof rack is much larger.
I am thinking about upgrading it to a 100 watt though as i am about to add a second battery, and i plan to add more gear in the truck including a mobile starlink setup, the new one that you can use while in motion.
