Rocker fulcrum guide HELP!!

I have a 94 f150 with the 4.9l 300 straight six long block.
I recently did a head gasket change and had to remove my rockers to properly clean them. Before my head gasket change I had a knocking noise coming from the rockers being to high off the valves and its gotten worse since the gasket change. I noticed my rocker guides are warped so I suspect they aren't seated as far down as they ought to be. Do I actually need the guides? Because I can't seem to find replacements anywhere and most part stores I go to have no clue what I'm talking about.

I dont remember what keeps the rockers from walking but I dont know of any factory setup that used guide plates.
Can you take a few pictures of what you are talking about so we know and can offer what should be done to fix it.

The 1987 to 1996 Ford 4.9 use pedestal mount rocker arms where the pedestals sit in a "U" channel to keep the pedestals from turning.
Those channels must be in place to keep the rocker arms from turning off the valve stems.
Are those the guides you are talking about?

A picture would help.

those are the ones! The only label I've been able to find for them is 'rocker fulcrum guide' and I can't seem to find replacements anywhere..

They are known as pedestal channels.

I'm not sure what you mean by "warped".
Can you post a picture?

Even if a channel is bent somehow, the channel metal is only .040" thick and should sit flat after you torque the pedestals down to 20 ft lbs.

My repair manual has me tourqe to 15... shouldn't make that much difference.. and I can post photos of them tomorrow. I'm working out of town right now so my truck is the next county over
