Short and simple, bought a 1984 F-350 with the 6.9l in it to have as a shop truck (Being that it had a flatbed), only gave $350 for the truck, the old man said it needed injectors but he couldn't do the work as he had lost his 2nd Kidney and was on permanent dialysis. I ended up getting the steal of the deal, put 2 injectors in it, got it running after a few days of working on it after work, however found out it had head gasket problems. I have only had Duramax's up to this point in my diesel life, and this is the first non-duramax I have bought.
While breaking the heads down to get to the head gaskets and do them, as I pulled the valve cover off the driver side head, I noticed one of the rocker bridges was broken. I am a welder by trade and have the means to fix this, however, I was wanting to just buy a "New to me" one but cannot find one for the life of me. If I were to grind a bevel on the two broken edges, and then smooth them out flat, would it matter? Or does anyone have an old one sitting around they'd sell me?
I'll put a picture as soon as I go back out to my shop and grab it off of my breakdown table. (10/16/2021 - 12:31pm CST)
Thanks,
Stephen

Those aluminum rocker bridges were discontinued in the 80s. They wear on the bottom where the rocker arm pivots. Pull them it out of the rocker arms and inspect for wear on the "half moon" and on the "dish" portion of the arms. You will likely see scratches on the pivot and rockers. You will need to search for new style rocker arms and pivots, will not have the bridge. Used to be sold in pairs of 2 and were also used on 7.3L engines. You should replace all of them while the engine is apart. Inspect the valve stems, where the rockers contact them, for wear. The tops of the stems tend to wear or flake off. Rocker arms also wear at the same contact points.

Never mind disregard the question, I found some 7.3l, that's between 88-?93ish could be NA or Turbocharged if I'm looking at the correct ones. I found some with a PN of 101L106 and another with a PN of E7TZ-6564-B. Both look identical, assuming the material may be different. However, they're both showing "Compatible" with the '84 6.9L.
