360 camera package. Which trailer cameras do I need?
Have a '23 Lariat (with 5th wheel prep package) on order, the 360 camera package is standard on Lariat.
What additional items (cameras?) would I need to get a 360 view around our conventional tow travel trailer? I assume if I need additional cameras they would need to be the Ford branded ones?
You will need to add the 360 Trailer Camera System, which I would imagine will come with the cameras you will need to install around your trailer. However, the 360 Trailer Camera system isn't available until J2, so if you want to add it it will delay your build... who knows how long.
Thanks. I don't believe that was a listed option for the Lariat when I built it out. It only had an option to add a single trailer camera for $500.
Thats because it’s a J2 option. Those options aren’t visible yet. If you want this option you need to have your dealer make your order a 99 so they (Ford) doesn’t build it. Then sometime next spring when they open up J2 options you can add it to your order and the dealer can change the priory code back to a 10-19 so Ford will (hopefully) pick it up and build it.
Another possible (but unknown) option is to try to buy the parts after you get your truck. It may just be cameras, or (most likely) there will be additional harnesses and connection points that will need to be added to your truck, as well as possible Forscan changes.
That makes sense, thank you for the details. Since the Lariat currently comes with the 360 camera package, I imagine I could just add it on later myself (using my IDS or Forscan if needed). Don't want to risk pushing it to a J2 build and dealing with a potential fiasco of some sorts.
I also noticed that the Ford cameras/associated harnesses cost ~20% more when you order them with the build compared to online pricing from what I am seeing. i.e. a single trailer cam w/harness is $500 on the build sheet but ~$330 online.
I can’t answer that… I know that aftermarket harnesses can be expensive, especially if bought prebuilt (like many things though, if you don’t mind building them yourself things are often times less expensive). And some things are less expensive to add (even OEM) aftermarket vs on a build, while others are more expensive. Often times this is also because some items are part of a bundle when added to an order.
But, being that the 360 trailer package is new for the 23’s, we don’t know what will be involved with adding it aftermarket. I’m sure there will be folks doing it though, and having the 360 truck cameras will probably be a good thing. Of course they haven’t even released how much that package will cost when adding it to the build… I think one of the hardest parts though will be sourcing the aftermarket parts given the supply shortages, at least if you are wanting to stay OEM anyway.
I see this is an old post but the cameras are now out and on the trucks. I am about to buy an F350 with the 360 but it does not have the trailer camera. Should I try to buy it aftermarket or should I try to negotiate the dealer buy it for me at their cost? Any idea what that cost would be for the wiring harness and the camera after the fact?

I haven't kept up with how the image quality is on the newest offerings, but can't say I'm impressed with the 360 cams on my 2019 F350 or the Ford rear trailer camera. I have a NAV-TV module installed so I can have the convenience of viewing while in motion. The trailer TPMS has been more valuable to me than the rear trailer cam.
FWIW, I also have some wifi cams and a mobile hotspot hardwired in/on my trailer. They offer 24/7 viewing with much better image quality. Just have to view them on a phone instead of the dash, and a decent cellular network available for the hotspot. I've had some of them running for years in all types of weather without issue. If one fails they're so affordable it's no big deal to replace. I like being able to see my junk when I want.
I wanted something to help me back up my trailer when i am by myself. Right now it can be tense because at times I've had to nearly jack knife to get to the diesel pump! My horse trailer and truck with my current short bed puts me at Semi length. I'm looking to get a long bed so that will be worse. I have never had anything but a back up camera which drives me nuts when the tailgate comes down for backing under the goose. Is it legal for you to share some links to the cameras you use? Sounds interesting. I'd like to have one inside the stock area to keep an eye on my horses while we are traveling.
