Code p1299 5.4L 2003 excursion

Need assistance…
wife’s Excursion throwing code 1299, check gauge light flashing, coolant temp gauge pegged on hot, limp mode activated,
I have changed the following
CHT
Wiring from CHT to main harness
thermostat.

after all new parts installed ran in driveway till engine was warm, same symptom but using laser thermometer, only seeing 180 - 200 deg on the head, and 160 on water outlet. Shut it off and restarted, temp gauge back to center normal position, drove it 30 miles, no trouble… next day same thing happened while driving, temp pegged, limp mode activated.

any suggestions? This version of the triton does not have a coolant temp sensor.

thanks in advance

You may have a loose/bad ground somewhere that is leading the sensor's signal to be mis-interpreted. or some other electrical problem going on in there.

Could also be as simple as low coolant or an air bubble in the cooling system and the CHT circuit is working properly.
