I have a '98 Explorer 4.0 OHV with 94k miles and the check engine light came on last night. The code is "P0125 - Cold loop fuel control insufficient coolant temp".
Last year all of the 02 sensors were replaced as well as the temp sensor and the IAC valve. The thermostat has never been replaced.
Can anyone tell me what is causing this? Thanks.
You guessed it, John, it's probably the thermostat stuck in the open position.
A second posibility would be a faulty ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor. It's the one more toward the driver's side of the engine. The temp gauge sender is the one toward the passenger side. It's possible you may have replaced the gauge sender.......?
Either one of these could keep the engine running in the closed loop mode.
The ECT sensor is located directly to the right of the temp gauge sender (looking from the front). It's next to the air conditioner mount.
If the thermostat hasn't been changed, I would change it first, since it's cheaper and probably needs changing anyway. If the heater takes a long time to get warm, I would suspect the thermostat.
