Hi,
I've been away for a while. An old friend gave me a big bore sportster and
I've been busy with it, kitchen remodel, grandkids, etc.
Still playing with the 49 H, been on the road for a year. No inspection for 30 year or older, so I get to drive it quite a bit. Longest round trip has been 100 miles.
WHAT I'VE LEARNED SO FAR:
1. double clutching is ok
2. coolant runs at @180' F
3. 65 mph is plenty fast enough < 3000 rpms (I use a GPS SPEEDO APP on my phone)
4. 50 mph is pleasant < 2200 rpms
5. took a spare valve cover, drilled it to accept a pcv. This really helped with
oil leaks. dunno if it runs any better, but seat of pants says yes.
6. drum brakes are for the brave.
That is a great rig you built. You must have the same smile on your face as those kids in the 'Vintage pics of days gone by' thread as they stand next to their bare-bones hot rods.

Tom
you and others here helped immensely!
I was going for exactly what you described; what an 18 year old kid would build
with peepaw's old farm truck.
Just trying to do the old things, "keeping the faith."
