I'm always poking around auctions, even when I know I shouldn't buy another vehicle. I've posted before about the City of Houston auctions, how I think they're corrupt. Still, they're always intriguing because they don't tell you anything about the vehicles. The auctions aren't online, you have to be there, at each of the many tow yards where the auctions are held every day. All you get in advance is a spreadsheet with make, model, and VIN number. The vehicle can be complete demolished in a wreck...or completely beautiful. I've seen some of both. It's corrupt for that and because of the used car dealers who have it rigged with the tow yards so that nobody gets a rock-bottom deal - the dealers will bid up to a minimum amount (around $600) for any and all vehicles; you won't get anything for less than that. Above that, if it has any reasonable value, the used car guys will bid up to wholesale, so you won't get any for less than that usually.
Having said all that, the cars are still intriguing. I saw a 65 Mustang listed two weeks ago. Who cares what shape it's in - the fenders and door handles are worth good money. I was out of town or I'd have gone to see. I told you about seeing the used car guys get a beautiful 05 F350 4x4 diesel lariet or whatever for $1800 - that's the other thing, you gotta have cash. No one else had that much cash and the used car guy stole it.
Anyway, I see this truck listed coming up next week: 02 Ford F-350 1FTWW33F82EC07915. It's a 7.3 dually 4x4 from a VIN search. That's gotta be worth something. Guess I should post this over on the 7.3 forum.
