Wheel stud replacement
Had new tires put on this summer on my 2002 F 350 4X4 Dually (manual lockouts) and the passenger front wheel came loose and I didn't catch it in time. Need an aluminum Ford rim now (wobbled the holes out) but guessing I need new studs also. Can I just replace the studs or need a new hub assembly? Bearing seems fine. If just studs, can they be done on the truck (Tapout and pull new in) or would I need a press and full disassembly? Been looking around for a while and no luck. Any advice would be very great. Yes they can be replaced fairly simply. The studs are knurled at the shoulder and can be knocked in and out with a hammer and drift or pressed w/ a vice if that's your pleasure. Since you're not looking to reuse them just hit them firmly and squarely on the tip w/ a 2-4# hammer and they should come out in a few well placed smacks. It may be possible to do the job w/ the hub still on the truck but couldn't say or whether it would risk damage to other parts.

Make damn sure the stud is started straight if using this install method. I've seen simple problems become not so simple from guys not getting the studs true.

I've replaced studs before with the Wack and pull method but didn't know if it was ok or possible with this truck.

Eh I've never had any troubles this way. You can eyeball it good enough. I've done a many like this on semi trailers. Did 2 today actually. lol

Take one of your old studs or lug nut with you to the parts store. There was a change in the thread pitch at some point. My 03 has fine threads but the earlier years had corse threads, just not sure what years.
