Broken manifold studs/bolts. Had a shop I trust price out repairing. resurfacing stock manifold gaskets etc were around 250 and labor about $550 both recognizing it could be a pain extracting some.
should labor be pretty identical if I were to just throw headers on ? I know parts are going to be another 1k if I go with Banks. Is this an upgrade worth doing ? If I am ever going to throw headers on I assume now is the time.
I got a set of Gibson shortie headers for my 2004. I had an exhaust gasket leak due to broken studs and decided to go the header route. No interference issues and they bolted right in where the manifolds used to be.
Shortly after the headers, I replaced the restrictive "T" with the "Y" pipe from 5 Star Tuning and then got a set of tunes with those two additions. Did it make a difference? Honestly, nothing that I could tell from the driver's seat other than a little more cabin noise. I am hoping that there is/was a slight improvement when towing my 9k trailer up the grade as I head up into the Smokies.

Some years ago I installed the complete Banks exhaust system including all exhaust piping (3.5"), muffler (3.5" in & out) and Automind chip. This one
It has made a big difference in towing power in the 2500 - 4000 range.

With the improvement from the logs to the smooth flow of the headers, and the entire 5 cylinder bank going through that 1.5" restriction, I would think there would be better airflow when the engine is in its upper RPM range, but someplace, people have proof that there is no improvement.
I have the Banks headers and they did help the performance, best felt when towing our 12K TT up highway grades. An excellent addition to some 5Star tunes (and most importantly deeper gears!)
