1st FORD..TROUBLE ALREADY..PLEASE HELP
We just purchased a 1994 Ford E-350. It was a Ryder truck, with the box on it ect. Have gone on several trips in it with no problem. Have run the air no problem. drove from central Illinois up to Michigan (254 miles, one way)via Innerstate, with the temp outside at 98, air running pretty high...no problem.
on the way home thought we would avoid chicago traffic and take smaller roads. Lots of stop and go traffic...air still on pretty high...then the problem starts. We come to a stop light and the truck dies! We put it in park and it sounds like it is trying to turn over..but just not taking. after a few tryes it catches, but dies when we put it in gear. After about 5 min of start and go, crawling around the corner we make it into an empty parking lot. The gauges on the dash are not abnormal, or give a high reading. When we open the hood though, it feels pretty darn hot, although no smoke. Give it 10 min to cool down, try to start, all good, drive around the lot and it stalls again. decide to let it cool and go for dinner for 45min. When we come out the sun has set, only about 93 now. the truck starts well and away we go, not running the air for about 15 miles. No indication of the problem so we start the air and go another 150 miles till we make it home...no problem. the temp was cooler though and we had passed most of the start and stop traffic, so there was many variables in our travel.
I am a new FORD owner, and am not familiar with gas engines, we have always had diesels. Some friends say it was just over heated, although that dosen't explain why the guages didn't give us a warning. some say vapor lock, don't really understand that. Looking for a FORD Friend to help us out with a little bit of insight.
Thanks so much,

I had the same problem with my truck, it would die when you first put it in gear. It turns out that the problem was caused by a faulty Throttle Position Sensor. I read somewhere that most Ryder trucks have about 125k on them when they are sold. I think that your truck is needing the fuel injectors cleaned and throttle cleaned. Also check the TPS switch and see if it needs replacement.
