I am starting to put a 239 back together and am at the point of putting on the retaining clips, (not the proper term), see pics, onto the caps of the connecting rods. I have come up short on these clips and am wondering if I could use Loctite on the two caps in lieu of the retaining clips shown, I have enough retaining nuts for 6 of the pistons leaving me 2 pistons that i am thinking of using Loctite on instead of the retaining clips. Would it be better to remove the other retaining clips and use Loctite on all caps instead of just the two that I am missing the clips for?
Any info would be greatly apricated.
Thank you for the info, so I can get away with just the nuts? Would it be a good idea to put locktite on them or just torque them to specs and leave it at that?
No Loctite needed. I've never seen a spec for the jam nuts' torque, they are pretty flimsy so maybe 15 - 20 ft-lbs?
Did you ever get new rods? If they came with the nuts, I would use them "just because". Have you checked your local NAPA or hardware store? Except that they are fine thread, they are a pretty common item.
