I've got a '97 F250HD 5.8l. I'm not getting any codes with below issues. It's OBD1 and I've tried multiple times to get a good code but nothing.
If I crank the truck and drive it immediately it surges pretty bad, has a rough idle, wants to jump/lunge forward while stopped with foot on the brake, and has a general loss of power. These symptoms go away after driving for 10 minutes and drives like new. It does this every time like clock work.
When I crank it and let it idle for 10 minutes it drives like new, absolutely none of the above issues happen.
Start with the basics.
What procedure are you using to get your codes?
Have you checked your fuel pressure?
Have you checked your timing?
Have you checked for vacuum leaks?
have you checked the idle air control for cleanliness?
have you checked the throttle body for cleanliness?
it sounds to me like the truck has a fuel delivery problem when cold, sorta like a improperly adjusted choke plate on a carbureted engine.

yep pulled the throttle body and cleaned it. Did clean the IAC. I’ll try that and see if it helps.
