Clearance/cab lights wiring issues

Got some clearance lights for my 95 f150, had to start from scratch on wiring but nothings working. It will run straight from a Milwaukee batter positive/negative but when I try to run it from the truck itself I'm having issues. I've tried grounding to the roof, parking brake pedal, and a few other bare metal spots. These all work to ground my test light. For power I've tried from the running light hot wire and even straight from the battery but nothings working. I'm not a wiring person so if anyone's got any ideas or other ways to wire it let me know thanks

You may want to consider using that OE pigtail stuff with an OE harness. It plugs into a grey connector in the passenger kick panel area, two wires only. I had to reinstall my OE ones on the '96 dually as the PO deleted them.
