A few codes

1996 F-150 Eddie Bauer Edition, 5.0, auto 216,990 miles.

I bought this for my daughter awhile back as her first vehicle. It needed a lot of work, we did it all. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, oil change, front brakes, front rotors, replaced all rubber brake lines, it now has ss hard brake lines, rear shoes and spring kit, all 6 shocks, rear springs, front and rear spring perches, short tube headers, high flow cat, 2-1/2" Y-pipe to a 3" turn down (no muffler), 3 new 02 sensors, replaced both gas tanks... I think you get the point. That's just what I can remember.

Now it's throwing 3 hard codes. P0500, P1120 and P1409. The speedometer and odometer were not working along with an OD light on the shifter blinking.

Now for the curveball... it cured itself. If you can't tell we're the kind of people that like to get a jump on anything that can go wrong. It's her first vehicle so I'm being extra cautious with it and her. I've asked the Google and seems like most threads are open ended. Any ideas?

Here are your Ford OBD II codes. What are your symptoms if any at this time other than what you listed which seem to pertain to the VSS.

A P0500 code is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) titled “
Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Malfunction.” This code is triggered when the vehicle's Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Engine Control Module (ECM) detects inaccurate speed readings or lack of a signal from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).

PO1120 code
Ford Throttle Position Sensor Out of Range

Really the only symptom was it was holding the 2-3 gear shift and 3-4 but mostly the 2-3 until around 4k rpm and being completely gutless.
Today was the first time she actually got to drive it on the road. We drove it roughly 40 miles. I pulled the codes. Theres the same 3 plus a soft code of P0122.

A P0122 code is the generic OBD-II code defined as “Throttle Pedal Position Sensor/Switch (TPS) A Circuit Low Input.” This code relates to the vehicle's Engine Control Module (ECM) and TPS Sensor Circuit A output voltage and is triggered when the voltage falls below the sensor's anticipated range.

I am unsure of how the code definitions are defined for OBD II . If you had TPS issues you should notice it when running or driving. It seems the VSS might be the cause of most of what you have going on. OBD 1 just gives suggestions. I am unsure if the component testing for OBD1 sensors are the same as OBD2. From your Willis thread you know there are plenty on here that can help with OBD2. Sat is a slow day on here but tomorrow help should arrive to give you their opinions. Thanks for the info. I'll add that the air pump isn't hooked up to the new cat currently. The tube is junk but we're running it for now, the cat is capped off.
The truck is still what i would consider a gutless wonder.
