IWE issue

I’ll get straight to the point. 2020 F-150 super crew Lariat, just turned 20,000 miles. Left front IWE grinding and it’s very intermittent. Took it to the dealer, and was told Ford has a tsb to basically disable the IWE actuators and leave them permanently locked in. I’m curious if anyone else has encountered this. If so I believe a class action lawsuit is is coming ? Any thoughts on this ? I don’t want my front drivetrain turning when unnecessary. More wear and tear and less fuel economy. Just want to see if anyone else has been running into this, thanks

This is the first 2020 I've heard of. When was your truck built? I have heard the fix is, as you describe, maybe others have a better opinion. I will say, ironically, I ran mine in 4A for a trip today (i like working various things on occasion), I did not notice any difference in drivability. Good luck with your decision, maybe bark at Ford corporate about your dissatisfaction. Seems like a pretty disappointing way out for **** poor engineering imo.

That is the fix, it doesn't affect safety or driveability. The IWEs are notoriously unreliable. Next time I have an issue, they will be deleted.

Class action lawsuits are worthless, no one wins but the attorneys. That having been said, fair warning here, there will be no discussion of legal matters on this site, per FTE guidelines.

This is a problem that has existed for YEARS! Just read the sticky at the top of the forum. And yes, the approved Ford fix is to disable the IWE function by disconnecting and plugging the vacuum line going to the IWE. I did that to my '17 Lariat years ago and haven't seen any noticeable change in gas mileage, handling or wear.

It seems Ford's philosophy is:
  • We screwed up the engineering
  • We're not going to change anything
  • You didn't really need that function, anyway
  • Maybe we'll try something different in a few years.
  • Maybe.

i look at this,it was working so put it back to the way it's supposed to work. Not just bandaid it like something i would do on the trail. last time i checked i paid for free wheeling hubs so fix it the way it was.
