So somehow the air filter cover it broke at every bolt except one. 1990 5.8L, going to start looking for a replacement or try to patch the old one. Would this be a cause of poor MPG, lack of power or pretty much topping out at around 60mph? I wouldn't think so but that seems to be what's happening, I also notice if I press on gas to pass someone, transmission isn't kicking down to passing gear, it seems to stay in the OD. Would the rusted out coffee can near the HP fuel pump have something to do with it not down shifting? Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

So over-tightening the bolts broke the plastic? JB Weld should fix that. Unless it was leaking really badly over a long time, I don't see how that could cause your performance problems. Can't help much with the shift problems but does it kick down with the switch?
PS: The air cleaner boxes don't seem to be too expensive on eBay.

No, check fuel pressure and ignition timing.

No, your trans is computer controled so you need to pull codes. The coffee can is a vacuum resovoir and loss of vacuum here will cause some driveability issues with engine.. though nothing as severe as you are experiencing.

No they weren't over tightened, Before I realized the fuel pumps went bad, I had sprayed starting fluid into the air horn and I guess I used to much because it backfired through the air box, that's when I notice all the bolts had broken. I hadn't thought to see if Ebay had them....Thanks

I will check them, They were fine after replacing both in tank fuel pumps, but I guess the HP pump could be getting weak. The timing was checked before but I'll check it again.

No code are popping up, Do I need a special code reader for the transmission? I'll see about ordering a new coffee can.
