Is there anybody out there that has changed the air filter on the new 6.0 diesel? If so can you inlighten me on how to remove the filter....I unhooked the clamps but cannot detach the underside on the firewall side. I just cannot seem to stretch my eyeballs down there to finger it out. And the instructions are not in the manual.
I'll quote the directions for changing the air filter from a Ford DVD Shop Manual I found on Ebay a while back.
1. Release and position aside the toggle clamps.
2. CAUTION: Rear cover tabs must be disengaged from the slots before pushing the rear cover or damage to the air cleaner element will occur.
Disconnect the rear cover (clean side) from the filter element by pushing the cover to the rear and pulling up to disengage the tabs on the cover from the slots on the filter element.
3. Push the cover to the rear under the coolant reservior and behind the slot feature on the filter element.
4. CAUTION: Front cover tabs must be disengaged from the slots before pushing the front cover or damage to the air cleaner element will occur.
Disconnect the front cover (dirty side) from the filter element by pushing the cover forward and pulling up to disengage the tabs on the cover from the slots on the filter element while pulling up on the rear of the filter element.
5. Pull up on the filter element to remove.
6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
There are some drawings, but you should be able to get it from the discription. If you need the pics, send me an email and I'll try to get copies to you.
Hey Colorado-native, thanks much for the instructions and that would be nice if you could send the drawings....My main e-mail is macdrifters@lvcm.com. I will try first thing tomorrow to remove the filter. It just seems like ford has made it a little difficult in removing the filter.

Changing this air filter is a real entertaining event, -----thanks to the engineers ability to pack it all in !!!!!!
I just took mine out to inspect it (15,000 miles). I found it easier to remove the entire filter assembly. Just loosen the screw clamp on the outlet side, remove the front by-pass hose and lift the entire assembly. (Unplug the two sensor wires). then you can make sure everything seals properly before replacement.
