Oil Filter Housing Question

I'm putting a 302 from a 1996 Exploder (yes, I spelled it like that on purpose) into my 1989 F150 4x4. The Exp motor has an oil cooler adapter mounted where the filter would normally screw in straight. It angles the filter forward and utilizes a shorter filter. Is there clearance for this setup to work on these trucks or do I need to pick up and adapter to convert it back to the convention side mount?

I have a 90 model f150 and did the same engine swap except mine came from a 99 explorer. All I did was remove the adapter from the donor motor, and on your old motor after you remove the oil filter you will see what looks like a pipe nipple. Just remove it and thread it in you donor motor. Them you can use your original style filter, Hope this helps.

That part I get. I'm wondering if the Explorer setup will fit in these trucks or if I have to ditch it. I like the idea of having an oil cooler setup like this but if it won't fit then I'll just remove it and hang on to it for now.

I'd ditch it. Someone mentioned to me that if the adapter fails, you get coolant in your oil.

I would also junk it. KISS for the swap and I fail to see how a 302 can do enough work to necessitate an oil cooler.
