2000 E350 7.3 window van, approaching the 14th month in, on my frame off “rust ur ration” …..I am reaching out to find out what I am missing…..reassembly going well until I decided on a new HP power steering hose…. The new line came with the..nylon quad ring, o ring , what ever you want to call it, installed on the fitting….with the pump on the engine and the engine in the chassis, I reach down and proceed to screw the fitting into the bottom of pump….the fitting continues in till it runs out of thread….the hose swivels freely….ok, disassemble and find the nylon washer destroyed, dragged into the threaded hole….I removed the pump to to get a better look into the hole…it is deep, too deep as if some sort of spacer is missing between the bottom of the pump cavity and the conical end of the fitting, with no surface for the seal to rest…I usually hoard things but for some reason I no longer have the old hose for comparison…..I been searching the web for a week, for a clue, but I am just more confused…I just married the new body to the chassis and need to get this resolved real soon…thanks, Al
Where did you buy the new hose? I'd call the dealer using your VIN and request a drawing of the PS hoses as they're fitted to the pump and steering box. Typically those will show every part needed to complete the assembly.
There are 2 styles of hoses and pump inserts (fittings)
IMO
You just have the wrong hose for your pump or visa versa
Those old C2 pumps used to come new, with both fittings, from Ford
Your newer ZF pump the fitting is not interchangeable on most of them and you need the correct hose
Never used to rely solely on that square teflon o ring anyway (they weep or leak)
I use a few wraps of teflon tape on the threads of the pressure line and I give the square teflon seal one wrap too
FOUND IT……I ended up buying a reman pump at a major parts store to see what I am missing …..I have all intentions of returning it now that I solved the mystery….my internal spacer must have, fallen out or was wedged onto my old hose, which I discarded….I will buy the cheapest used pump on eBay to get the part, ( unless it’s sold new somewhere) It’s a cylindrical spacer with an open center hole where the conical part of high pressure line appears to seal to…which in turn will align the depth of the nylon ring with the machined taper on the pump housing….finally …. New pump on left
