Im so glad I bought a 22sd. The 23's arent my cup of tea and from the majority of comments I dont think they have been received well.
The ford design team must live in a locked dungeon. Do they not get some consumer input or are they so proud of themselves they know best. I hate the long fender vent badges, the chevy step in the box and bumpers, the grills among other things. I just dont see much to rave over in 2023.
Ford knows SD trucks cost around as much as Lightning trucks. Lightning trucks are even more lucrative for Ford than SD trucks. Lightning trucks are more easily able to convert to a subscription model and have proprietary plugs and charging paraphernalia. Ford would much rather sell someone with SD money a lightning than a SD especially if the potential SD owner is just purchasing the truck as a grocery getter.
I'd expect this trend to continue of making the base model SD trucks appeal only to fleet owners and a lower quantity of the higher trim trucks being made but sold for a higher margin.
I live in the ozark mountains our roads wind around and seem to go up more than down either way. Electric vehicles make zero sense here. Pulling a trailer with an ev on a level road appears challenging it would be impossible here. Towns are far apart and chargers dont exist. I dont see this ev scam lasting long.
I actually like the box and bumper steps on the '23. GM has the same thing and they are actually very handy. I don't care for the way the nose of the truck looks on the '23s though.
Does Ford make public information that would tell us who their primary customer is? I'm guessing that most Super Duties are purchased by fleet managers and business owners. Those purchasers are likely more concerned with functionality than they are aesthetic design, and I think that the improvements that they made will be welcome by those customers.
I have no information to support this, but I would bet that the types of people discussing the new designs on forums (us) are not their primary demographic or where they will make most of their sales. What I mean to say is that although most people on the forum don't seem to like the new models, I don't think that necessarily translates to most of their customers not liking the new design.
They said that the cab is different than the cab from the previous model year. I don't know when the last time the F150 got a cab update. If the F150 got one a year or two ago, I would assume that they are the same.
I think the design team completely forgot you can add extended running boards if you want them, which don’t look like garbage permanently on the side of the truck
I don’t mind the idea of the infamous bed/bumper step, but it doesn’t solve the problem. If I can’t step up on the tailgate, a step 6” lower isn’t going to help much. To be real functional benefit it needs to be closer to the level of the running boards.
I prefer the amp bumper step for that reason. I can easily step right up onto the tailgate using it.
I want to know who was in charge of the wheels! I liked most all of the 22 wheel options. There is not one 23 wheel that I really like. The upper trims being the worst. The king ranch is AWFUL!
I agree most sales are fleet and business, but they are running those people away with the cost of an XL now too. Want a nice work with the 7.3 for towing? Too bad now you have to get a STX that almost costs as much as a Lariat! Those fleet buyers are quickly going to go else where.
Let's all remember that 2008-2010 was a thing, take a step back, and remind ourselves that Ford is quite capable of quickly rectifying mistakes when pushed.
No problems with the updates. The side steps will be useful for access to the bed, especially with a trailer in tow when the retractable step inside the tailgate is inaccessible. The side vents are now real, not fake, so I like that function won out over form and they are no doubt as big as they need to be to do the job. All together a good looking and very capable truck. Can't wait to get mine.

Yes, very happy I bought my 2022 when I did, hit the sweet spot for the 22's and got it in 10 weeks, since then it has been a crap shoot getting one.
And, as I said in another thread, Ford really screwed the pooch on the 23's, no way would I order one as they stand now.
They are overpriced and completely underwhelming, good job ford.
