steppin up to components

right now i have sony xplod 6.5" 180w 3 ways that i am just not satisfied with, went and listened to mb quart components along with some others, was most impressed with mb quart. what do yall think as far as components go? i am looking for more clarity rather than just loudness. also my sony's are runnin off the head(50x4-rms), would ampin em be an alternative top improve my sound.? or should i make the jump to components and get an amp?thanks all
eric

if you're wanting clarity, tha separate amp will help
but the amp and components will be much better
I seriously doubt your head has 50w x 4 RMS
50w x4 is prolly MAX, with like 10% THD

If you are considering componets then figure in an amp also, as most componet sets are rated higher than two way or three way speakers. Your head unit like most will be rated on the high end of there true scale.

I agree with drunkenmonk on the THD of the head unit.

I personally like Infinity Kappa perfects. Just remember what sounds good to you may sound like junk to someone else.

What's your budget? What are your expectations?

Those Sony's won't sound that great even if they are amped. They will sound better, but still not good If you decide to go with a set of components, an amp is required if you want anything resembling SQ and SPL. Without a budget, a list of recommended components would never end as would a list of appropriate amps.

Oh yeah, you want added clarity, even with new/better speakers? Sound deaden, proper speaker location, proper gain setting on amp, proper crossover point, and of course, a nice amped set of good speakers.

I've heard both the perfects and the "Regular" kappa. Honestly, the regular kappa are very good, and unless you've got a lot of money to throw at your system, you will notice very little difference between the kappas and the kappa perfects while the engine on your truck is going.

just my $0.02

I'm actually going to be installing a set of kappas in my ranger in about a month when I build the enclosures.

thezeb has CDT on sale. Yes CDT is better than Infinity. (the kappa line does sound nice tho) Yes you will want to amp these. You can get a amp good enough to push these at numerous places ebay included for under 200 if your on a severe budget.

Amping the front stage will almost always sound better, maybe even with your Sony's, since they are severely underpowered now.

But i doubt it. Sony is crap.
