Howdy y'all, new owner for my '06 F-150, 5.4 L 3V. Decided to do an upgrade from the factory radio, so I disconnected the battery like it said in the instructions, finished the install, and when I reconnected the battery cable and turned on the truck I got the service light (I think that's what the wrench means). The engine light was already on for a stuck open IMRC, so I don't know if it tripped something else. The really weird thing is my accelerator is dead. No response from it at all. The truck idles well, and moves forward slowly while it's in gear like normal, but there's no response from pressing the gas. I might be able to take it somewhere over the weekend, but it'd be nice to get some ideas of what I'm dealing with.
Did you take pictures of the connectors and wires before starting mod . I wonder if you broke a connection if you changed plugs out . Just maybe you interrupted a feed to gas pedal . I like to make a hand drawing as well as pictures so i can recreate connections . I don't have a drawing of the gas pedal circuit yet . So I dont know how it inputs signal to get to throttle body . I have a feeling that the gas pedal signal goes to pcm then pcm sends encoded signal to throttle body circuit board that drives throttle body motor .
I had trouble with mine going into limp mode years ago but it turned out to be a factory bad series of throttle bodies. So I started looking at it but cant remember much . But mine would shutdown to avoid the dreaded stuck throttle situation . If the feedback to the ecm doesn't match it shuts down .
Your best clue is you disturbed the wiring so maybe your gas pedal doesn't have power or ground .
I have some drawings so I will look .
I know you will be looking at gas pedal wires and test points for missing stuff . You didn't disturb wiring in engine compartment from pcm to throttle body by working on radio .
Of course it could very well be a partially disconnected wire or harness connector that is not providing a full connection. IMHO, the only way to trouble shoot is to DC each harness and check for continuity, etc., if that all checks out ok, then you are having the similar issue of many in the aftermarket world does..... the sound systems are an integrated part of the cars systems..... and much of the aftermarket (more than most would consider to be acceptable) simply have not the tech capabilities to adequately integrate their components into these systems....and it doesn't matter what brand vehicle either. possible you knocked out a fuse in passenger kick panel. Especially f33 the gas pedal has many wires ,goes thru a lot of drawings . We would need to make up a large drawing to simplify a circuit just for gas pedal to pcm and fuses . It has more than one rheostat in it , looks like three . It has some common connection feed points used for other purposes so that would involve wiring routing to see if that point okay .
I don't know the philosophy of this circuit as a check point to make sure it doesn't give false signals which could cause runaway throttle . Its going to take some digging .
It just sounds like it lost a fuse feed or a power wire was interuppted .
Not an easy layout , needs a handrawn large drawing . Trace each wire by color to its source .
I was wrong about f33 , i cant find any fuse directly going to gas pedal all sources are coming from pcm . So the pcm is powering those circuits so check all fuses .
On the radio there was a signal vss or tss vehicle speed signal , why it was there don't know but if you messed up that signal it might put you in limp mode .
Wow I looked it up and vss is used on gps models of radios as well as some fancy apps require it . Says it makes gps more accurate, some apple stuff uses it .
