Split Cats

Hi all, I have a 95 F150 351W E4OD and both cats underneath the truck are shooting exhaust out of the bottoms of them as if they're split or popped somewhere. There is still water coming out of the tailpipe when it runs so they still are doing something when the truck is running. I don't have any signs of a clog or bogging down when driving either. Are my cats fine enough to flow test and just booger back together or should I just outright replace them? Main reason for asking is it's loud, I'm finally sick of it and I don't know what the best kind of move here would be or what other cats to buy would be. Also unsure if anyone has had this kind of thing happen on their own vehicle F Series or not.

Depends on your budget. If you can afford it, replace both cats and they'll last another 30 years. You can also have them welded back together, but if they split, it's probably because of rust has weakened the metal. They're may not much metal to weld back together. I'd look at it as a temporary repair.

Remove both converters and replace with one modern converter. Make sure you get one with an air tube, if you still have the air injection system.

Agreed with above and the scrap value of the OE units may cover the cost of a modern unit.

Replace both old cats with a new single one. Or replace the whole Y pipe and cat assembly if it is deteriorated with something like a Magnaflow kit.

Depending on your location, you could probably get away with some aftermarket high flow cats, or none at all which I'm not a fan of.

F.W.I.W. when I rebuilt my 460 and did new exhaust, I added a magna flow catalytic converter. Was about $100 at summitracing.com, and you can get various inlet and outlet sizes, depending on your needs.
