Am going to be building a 351M for my truck. I am going to be using federal mogul pistons and shaving the heads to get around 8.7:1 compression ratio, will put intake and 4 barrel on as well as headers. I am wondering what kind of mild can to get? One better than the stock which I’ve been told are garbage, but don’t want it to be too extreme, still want decent gas mileage, any suggestions are welcome, thanks.
I don’t have any specific cam suggestions but you’ll have good luck with any “rv” type cam. One thing to watch is the lift as stock springs are not good for much lift at all.

Comp cam 260h or 268h are good overall. I ran a 268h in my 400 and was great.

thank you both, I think I’m going to go with the comp cams 260h.
careful careful. You're still gonna want to put springs in that, and get ya a 3 keyway timing set and go +2 or +4 on valve timing so it still has *** in the bottom end.

thank you, at this point I’m still considering making it a 400. It would be easier to get better compression ratio. The only thing holding me back is gas mileage, but my 351M at the moment is a pig getting 12 mpg on a good day, so I mine as well go to a 400 that should get better mileage with the higher compression and 4 barrel. What do you think?

If youre going that route might as well get the 444-451 stroker kit from Tmeyer. i have one going in a 72 LTD for a bit of fun... Edelbrock 61629 heads, scorpion rollers, Lunati voodoo cam (10320509), nitrous... etc etc... big cam will bring down the DCR enough to run pump gas. its just about cubic dollar and what you wanna do with it.
