WHEEL HELP

1st). trying to see if anyone knows what the actual “name” is for these wheels?
2nd) has anyone had any issues with these wheels?
3rd) what are the correct fitting lug nuts?

now let me paint the story.
bought a ‘77 f250 drove it straight home. Rebuilt the engine, first drive after rebuilding & the wheel took a vacation Saturday 50 mph into oncoming traffic with 35in boggers……..Wrong lug nuts due to huge amounts of free space between the wheel and stud…. Lug nuts were torqued but evidently wanted to go to a tropical climate….Broke a stud , the other lugs left & the wheel hit eject…photos below.
never had any issues with wheels before but never had aluminum wheels with aftermarket lug nuts .
Any info / insight/ suggestions?
Also now looking for 77 fender& grill ….

thanks
matt

Slots it what everyone called them.

The nuts you need are shank style and there are lots of variations. I just bought a set of them by Gorilla for my Western Cyclone wheels and they're probably the same as yours.

Measure the thickness of your wheel at the hole, the diameter of the hole and the thread will be 1/2x20.

All 8 nuts left their studs, no broken studs, holes in wheel still round?

We called them "aluminum slots".

Threads are 1/2"-20. What is the hole diameter ibn the wheel, and how thick is it there?

Looks like the holes are just straight drillings, no tapered seats?
If so, you'll need to use those that have washers, like you pictured.

7 of 8 left , the 8th stud broke.
holes in wheel still round,
yea bought some of the replacements to get it home, not sure I’ll have to measure to confirm.
& yea straight no tapering

so these photos are the shank ones I found that look like they would work.
the only issue I was concerned about was the space between the wheel and stud with a more skinny lug nut not centering the stud like an acorn nut would. Which would lead me to my next option of wheel nut bushings?
thanks

No all you need are the correct nuts and washers and you're good to go.

They fit the hold pretty close but they're not snug in it. if you check the thickness of the wheel in the hole and the diameter you can look at the listings and find the right ones. just be sure they're 1/2x20 and the shank is a little shorter than the thickness of you wheel.

Look at Gorilla part # 75187 . that's what my western Cyclone wheels used and I think it's pretty common on this vintage wheel.

Glad you are ok, the rims are commonly called Slots, Slotted Mags or just Mags. And I bet they are 16.5...And yes you only need the correct lug nut and washer and NO acorn on the end of the lug nut. So get the correct lug nut (called a mag seat w/washer) for a (flat /mag seat) rim and the lug nut part goes INSIDE the rim. Because of the thickness of the rim face and the rim design, you can not and are not suppose to use acorn end lug nuts. Problems are you can get corrosion from the steel washer and aluminum rim. And they are know to NOT hold their torque. SO check them often and I have even seen a guy use purple (low strength) Loc-tite on them before.

I always heard them referred to as "slotted dish mags".

the eBay links were not working but the summit ones at the bottom link were what I was kind of looking at with an extra .38 of length on the shank while .69 diameter is not ideal and presumably what diameter is on it now with the 1 inch shank. Wrong threads obviously but the length profile more so, then find the correct threads

I've done a bunch of real truck wheels as well as wheels like my cyclones and I've found a 3" DA sander with 600 grit followewd by 1200 works best. then take a 3" circular with orange pads with buffing compound and water and give it a high polish followed by mothers. I'm sure there are numerous combinations that work but that's mine.
