Originally posted by TAMU05 ... what i can do incase i get stuck or prevent it from getting stuck. i carry a shovel, and a tow rope, but now i am thinking about a winch, a locker would be nice but i don't think i can afford to get it installed
Consider adding an EZ-locker from Detroit locker people or a Lock Right. Both are around $270 and doesn't require ring & pinion readjusments and can be done by the mechanically inclined.
The winch would be a good bet and/or a good quality come along til you get one. I have an old surpluse boat anchor that I use to drag my **** through the mud with when I was 2 wheeling with a ls rear end. I was poor back then, so I used a come along and pull strap, the anchor out front or behind depending on the direction I wanted and moved the rig 20 feet at a time.
to continue with my 2wheeling discussion i was wondering about tires. this weekend i am goin to get semi-aggressive tread 31's put on my F150. that is the biggest possible b/c its a 4x2. but yesterday one of my friends parked w/ one wheel on a curb, the rest on the street (dont ask why), and i was looking at the suspension. if i get the biggest tire i can fit on, then wouldnt the clearence btw the tire and wheel well be next to nothing? would 31s not enhance my offroading expierience because they are too big?

Wow. Put down the crack pipe and back away slowly. Did I just really read that a two wheel drive is the best for off-roading!? The mall parking lot is NOT off-roading.
might not be the best, but it can be funner, until you get stuck. i might have to get me a 4 wheel. 2wd are better on the beach. but i don't go to the beach that often

There was a rather excessive time lapse between this double post...I assume it was on purpose? Fords typically have the most clearance....I know my 91 has 33s with barely any problem 31s should have absolutely no problem go for it!
I now own all 4x4s, just because when it gets in your blood, you are hooked
However,
When i did have the ole '74 2wd years ago, i had the most fun and did go places that most 4x4s only wish they could go. I would be on the other side watching while they were getting pulled back. I did have 33s on the back
I was comparing mid 70s. with a "lower pumpkin" on the 1/2 ton 4x4s than that what the 4x2s twin I beam had
Could we all agree that "boys play in the parking lot while big boys do it in the mud", in a ford of course

well yea, it was a lil soon wasnt it... im just really anxious to know if these tires are too big to have fun w/ because of the clearance. im hoping to buy tires tomorrow thats why i bumped it so quickly.

a 4x2 is great fun untill you get stuck but you realy have to be ****ing around t get seriously stuck usualy you can throw some stones or whatever is arround under the tires and get out, i have had much fun in 4x2 trucks and even cars w/out lockers. it's a blast but it is nice to have the 4x4 when you get stuck i was out screwing around in my new 2000 f 150 4x4 on the beach "not legal where im at" and got stuck 9in 4x2 so its great to throw it into 4x4 and get your self out of their before the cops come lol. i love my truck i run it in 4x2 as long as i can but when it needs a little bit of help 4x4 dose just fine. But any 4x2 with a limited slip / locker and some agresive tires at least in the rear will get you pretty much anywhere you want to be. have fun
Wait, hyperpunkguy[F150], where in Pa do you live? I just helped to pull someone out of a ditch on saturday afternoon with a truck that looked exactly like yours, was two wheel drive, and had just gotten new tires to test out.... If that wasn't you, it's one heck of a coinsidence. Oh yeah, and I did the same today near the same spot for someone else too, check my galleries.
hey no_bs, i checked out your pics, looks like a hell of a time gettin that truck out. i noticed that you have the exact same type and size of tires i want.
ill be getting 33"x10.5" BFg A/Ts when i get the money, after i get my pipes done in the next month or so. hopefully i can fit 33s on my truck without a lift.
