Hi all, I haven't been on here much lately but have an odd situation. I noticed that my right front side marker light was out. Opened the hood, and not only had squirrels chewed through the wires, but the light socket was also gone. So, this weekend I get to get another socket and break out the soldering iron. Anyway, here is the question. There are four wires coming out of the remaining wiring harness. One is obviously for the ground on the fender. Then, there is one black and two brown wires. All the new plugs for sale have one black and one brown. The remaining plug (on the left side) also has two brown and one black. So, I'm assuming that the black is negative, and the two brown are positive. If you get a new plug, do you just connect both browns to the single brown? Or, if I get a three wire plug from the pick-n-pull, does it matter which brown wires you connect together? If these are strictly positive wires, I don't see any polarity issues. But then, about all I know about wiring is that if you let the magic smoke out, they no longer work.
I hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance for any answers (either correct or humorous).
Ensure that the black wire from the replacement socket goes to the black wire in your harness. You are correct, black is ground in DC electronics.
The multiple brown wires of your replacement socket can be spliced together as long as they both go to the brown wire in your harness. Bulbs sometimes have multiple filaments for HI/LO beams, brake lights/tail lights, etc.
The two browns are just twisted together and tied to the new light, and then the black is the ground. Maybe you haven't checked or noticed. but with both brown wires hanging in the air like that, your side marker light and your front marker light below the headlight should not be working. The turnsignal portion under the headlight will probably work, but the marker portion will not. That is where the other brown goes. So you will have 3 browns tied together, one is power coming in from the switch, one will go to the new light, and one will lead down to the front light.
