Charlie, looks like you've jambed that out and are painting the outside....

I assume you are taping the seams and then spraying the cab with the doors on? If so what type of tape due you use? Soft edge foam?

Any ill effects from allowing the overspray from the jambs onto the outside of the truck? Dark patches etc?

Hooler,

not to belabor the subject, however, I noticed your reference to TRI Fives and thought I'd share mine. When I was a little guy growing up in Texas, my dad drove a 53 the 56 F-100 and my mother the 56 Chevy, hence my infatuation with Ford and Chevy. I guess you can say we were a confused family. All I know is once I was in a position to do so, I had to have one of each in my garage.

Thank you for the insight on door adjustments, even as simple as these trucks are, resident knowledge is important.

Best, Phil

On my 56 F-100, I used one of those auto body U shaped shims initially. Then when I had to pull the door off for the hinge repair, I used used a pair of washers. It was kind of hard keeping the washers under the hinge leaf and on the bolt to start it, so I almost switched back to the body shim that I used earler. Maybe better though is parts retailer Mid-Fifty and other guys here on this forum have drilled, tapped, and threaded bolts into the hinge leaves for added door adjustments if you can't get quite enough adjustment on the B pillar side of the hinge to keep the door alignment straight from bottom to top.

Art,

What a simple concept. Having spent 30 years in the Marine Corps, I'm starting to realize that one doesn't have to "grunt" it out, there are tools out there or in ones shop that can be used to make things easier...

Thanks Phil

Hey Phil !
Your family's history with Ford and Chevy is a great story. I bought my 56 F-100 from a guy who also had just sold his 57 Chevy Bel Air. So my truck came from a family who Loved them both too. I think there are a lot of those folks. Even though I am a rabid Ford truck fan of any year really, my daily drivers are a Chevy Blazer CUV and a GMC Canyon.
Thank you for your kind words on my door alignment experience I shared. I really love these forums because I learn a lot from others and their experiences so when I decide to work on something, I cruise and search this site always finding useful information others have shared before me. There are always tons of good stuff here from much smarter folks than me!

This HOK paint is very finicky, does not like to be painted in sections as it is hard to match the pearl and tint. That said, the attached pic shows how the cab was painted, I did use round foam in the seams. Overspray wasn't an issue but the tinted sealer was. The base coat was a tinted sealer, HOK KD3000, it covers all the previous overspray and holds out any inconsistencies between the base layer and the color coat. Care has to be taken to get coverage with the sealer and then get that sealer covered with the color coat...practice makes perfect.
