Recently I’ve been having issues with my 95 7.3ps. The wait to start light always comes on, but the relay only works if the vehicle is cold, usually first thing in the morning. Any time after that, the light comes on, but I can tell by the battery indicator and the rough start that the relay isn’t actually actuating. I’ve already put a brand new relay in and it isn’t making a difference. I also notice that it’s taking a lot longer to build oil pressure even though it just had an oil change and it’s at the perfect fluid level.
A warm 7.3 will not need glow plugs to light off, mine does not need them until low 60s on the Fahrenheit scale. You probably have other issues to sort.
If it's hard to start hot could be 4 possible problems, it could either be bad injector O rings letting oil escape, bad injectors, could be a sticky IPR/torn O rings/ bad coil, or the starter isn't spinning to engine fast enough.
Since you were posting about glow plugs , the on time is determined by oil temp. The sensor for the GPS is on the Backside of the high pressure oil pump .The sensor for the dash gauge is on the top (idiot light so to speak) The OT sensor may be faulty or the connection may need attention . BTW , as far as I know we don't have an AIT sensor ( at least my 97 does not ) . Get the truck on a scanner & monitor oil temps warm & cold . GP on times can be read as well .
