I am heading to work on my buddies 1985 F700 (he said it might be an 800). He is a cowboy and knows nothing about mechanics and barely knows the year of the truck. I am just trying to get a head start on what to check (it is an hour driving and finishing up current project before I go).
It has a gas engine (not sure of the size yet) and he says it won't start. A year ago someone told him the timing was off and I was wondering if it had the poly coated timing gear in those years. The last guy couldn't get it to run buy never changed any parts that I am aware of)
Once I get there I will check fuel flow and spark. I am not an expert by any means but I can usually make stuff run.
This truck is one of the most abused machines imaginable. It has a feed mixer on the back and is used to feed cattle. It sits at idle and just drives around a dirty feed lot all day..
