I am about to snap. This happens from time to time. I just went out to start her up and allI got was the ubiquitos....."click". It was only one click then SILENCE.........In the past 6 months in an attempt to remedy the situation, I have changed the battery, Starter solenoid, alternator, and the belt is about 1 year old. I kind of knew it was coming because over the past few days it seemed to labor to start up. Kind of like "wer............wer..........wer..............star t". What the hell else could it be...NOTHING was left on to drain the battery.
The only other option to the charging system is the belt tensioner so today I am going to change the belt AND tensioner........
WHy don;t you get a voltmeter and test your battery voltage when it won't start. If the voltage is around 13-14 volts your battery is fully charged. If that is the case I would suspect the connections on your starter need cleaning!!
Here is one for the obscure problem solving logs.......
I disconnected the battery, changed the belt and tensioner, reconnect the battery and she started right up.
Strange.....................
All the battery connections were tight too.........
New battery doesn't necessarily mean no problems. I worked in a shop (many moons ago) and I saw plenty of faulty new batteries.
Make sure all of your ground wires are tight and just as importantly, clean. In fact, double check all connections where you've replaced electrical parts.
Weird that it started after changing your belt and tensioner??????
Had similar problem, if battery and charging system are "ok" take a look at the hot lead on the starter from the battery. Terminal was damm near corroded off. It would start sometimes , sometimes just click. I tried to jump start thinking the battery was shot and still just a click. Checked out the wiring at the starter and soldered a new lug on to it, re-connected and haven't had a problem since. Almost wasted my money on trying a new battery as I was out of town at a race but I reptiled underneath the truck and found the bad connection, made a temporary repair track side. Very cheap fix. Good luck.
Recently had the battery replaced in my '99 Expy. Everything was fine for a couple of days, then went to start after fuel up and it wouldn't fire. Starter was turning over fine, so I looked for blown fuses for the fuel system. Problem ended up being a not tight enough connection on my positive battery terminal. No problems since.
Other possible problems may be a short in the wiring harness causing battery drain/ poor or corroded connections at battery/ starter sloenoid/ ground connections/ battery cables/ starter motor marginal / voltage regulator/ altenator/ belt and tensioner..........
