Okay…you might realize by now I’m getting my new 2022 F350 CC LB Diesel ready to haul a 5th wheel. Mixed opinions on airbags but some have said I should replace the shocks. Kind of hard to swallow brand new truck needing new shocks. If factory suck that bad how have they not improved Them? Anyway….opinions?
Just run your stock shocks. At this point you don't even know how they will perform. Then reach your own opinion. FWIW, I feel my stock shocks are just fine.
When I got my 20 almost 3 years ago I changed out the OEM shocks a few days after I got it home. I put on a set of Fox 2.0 and ride was noticeably better. After 3 years I can't tell that they have worn at all. The empty ride is still good as is the ride when towing our fifth wheel.
I’d agree run the OEM’s for a while and see what you think. Won’t hurt anything. Saying that, I did swap mine out at 10k for a set of Bilstein 5100’s and I’m glad I did. It improved the ride a little bit and it makes the truck feel more planted.
It doesn't NEED new shocks. It's people's personal opinion. My gooseneck and truck are about 24,000# fully loaded. 2022 stock shocks work fine. The whole truck rides a lot better than my 2015 did, stock for stock, in the same conditions. I'm in no hurry to replace the shocks.
In my opinion factory shocks are garbage and have been for decades. If you want to run them for a while I would not run them over 10 thousand miles. My right rear factory shock started leaking at 6 thousand miles and I was already getting ready to get the trash off the truck. Was it under factory warranty? Yes but why let them put some more of their crap on. When I took them off every one of them was as weak as a wet noodle. I immediately changed all 4 and steering stabilizer with Bilstein’s 5100 and never looked back. Truck hopping on bumps in corners, little wandering feeling in the front end and ride quality was a huge difference. There are people who say shocks did nothing for them. What can I say. That is their opinion and I respect that. I have been running Bilstein’s for years and they work for me.
Run the stock ones and if you don't like how they feel, then choose what you want, anything over stock will be better. But just because some folks said change them, don't until you decide. After 4k miles both of my rear shocks started to leak oil, it road fine...but at that point I put on aftermarket shocks.
Like Rob, I waited 30k on my 08, 10k on my 11, and about 1k on my 15. 22 should be better than branded Rancho of 08, but a huge difference and improvement were immediately noticed in each changeout so far, both empty and loaded. I have used the 4600, no chrome an zero plan to lift. I changed out steering dampener at same time, never any indication of vibration or wobble. Changed out all again after running 45k - easier to do it at home and avoid surprises on long road trips. Cheaper than oil changes per mile.
Time will tell if my (iyet to be built) stock 22 rides worse than my 15.
