the most ive seen out of a 7.3l (or T444E) was a lil over 300k miles. This was in a med duty straight truck. The owner(company) took good care of this engine for it to last as long as it did. On average from the International side they are usually lasting between 150,000-195,000.
Not to start an argument with IH tech, but rather state another mechanics observations. I was a on/off road heavy diesel Master Mech. for about 20yrs. The only time I saw a DT, or T444 of any type go less than 500k was either due to abuse or mfg. defect (dusted engines). Most in-frame (minor) overhauls I did on them were at 500-750k. I have no doubt my 96 PSD will go 1m miles. My 89 F150 w/300 straight 6 has 300k and the original clutch still, yes I tow with it too. I just do the maintenance that the manual says to do, and use premium oil and filters.
Man, thats awesome to get that many miles on a DT or 444E. Im not saying that it cant be done just stating what ive seen. Navistar wants to get at least 500k out of them before an inframe is done or needed but down here i havent seen it. Most drivers dont take care of the trucks down here. Being that they are not driving there own trucks. So they dont keep up w/ the maintenance. Its a shame, but from my side its $$$$
210,000 On my 2000 F-250 keeping it top shape.. hope it last another 200,000 kinda gota keep it going. I think I can make it.. Spud here in Central Texas....
Just turned 110000 miles. Uses no oil between 5000 mile changes. Runs as good as the day I bought it. I see no reason not to get 500000 miles from this engine.
I HAVE 1996 F250 PS DIESEL OVER 206,000 ON IT AND TRANS TOO ALL I HAVE DONE TO IT IS SERVICE AND TWO WATER PUMPS AND CAM SENSORS,TWO ALT. BEEN A GOOD TRUCK I'AM NOT SURE HOW THE NEW 6.0L DIESEL WILL DO.
2002 F250 PSD Crew with 138,000 completely trouble free miles on it. I have always had great luck with the cars/trucks I have owned. The one common thing among all of them, maintenence plain and simple.
I also have a 1996 F250 with the 7.5 gasser in it with 107,000 miles on it. (For sale by the way) Other then that fact that it LOVES gas it is and always has been a very reliable strong running truck.
