22 hands free phone - sounds awful
Coming from an 18 250 xlt to a 22 350 xlt
i called my wife and she complained about barely hearing me, and excess “static/background” noise.
we swapped vehicle and sure enough - it’s awful. The 2018 microphone sounded great - and the other person could hear you clearly - but the mic on my 2022 is subpar.
question - is this the way it is, or do I potentially have a bad mic(s)?
im not even sure how to troubleshoot this issue.

that’s what I’m going - CarPlay still uses the trucks microphones.
in my post, I’m not using speakerphone - it’s the same crappy sound whether I’m unplugged and using bluetooth to sync3, or plugged in and using CarPlay.
My ‘21 has a similar, but opposite issue.
Phone conversations using Bluetooth are clear on the other end for whoever I’m talking with. But if I plug in using USB they complain that it comes through quiet and that it’s kinda like I’m standing far away from the phone lol.
Otherwise works fine but I get told it’s harder to hear me when plugged in vs crystal clear over Bluetooth.

I haven't seen any complaints about sound quality in 22's, so I'm thinking it's something specific to your truck or phone. It sounds like your wife's phone had the same result, so maybe it is the microphone. The only other thing I'd try is a different cord, those things go flaky.
Same with Sync 3. The USB cable enables certain apps that I don't use much and charges the phone. I tend to agree with others opinions as to the OP's issue. The microphone is defective or some connector not fully seated.

Mine works great if using bluetooth but sounds terrible on the other end if plugged in and using carplay. It has been that way since new with my iphone 12. Clearly the microphone isn't the issue on mine but some software glitch causing it to not work with carplay and or the USB port.

Just picked up my 450 yesterday with Synch 3. Made a call to wife and was good. But then rest of the calls, weren’t that great on the trip home. All calls USB connected through car play. Upgrading the OS to 16.0.2 to see if there is a difference.
