okay, new to the forum, just wanted to ask a quick question.
I have a 2000 ranger super 4x4. Sometimes it's really hard to put into 1st or second either from a stop(into 1st) or from third to second. I noticed also that if I am in my driveway, with it in first and I let go of the brake with the clutch still all the way in the car will not roll backwards. Does this mean that the clutch is grabbing or can it be adjusted, or does it need to be replaced? Thanks
Sounds like yer syncros are going bad. Are you double clutching going from 3rd to 1st? because if you are taking the truck out of third and going directly into 1st without letting the clutch out while in the nuetral position then yer going to break the tiny shift gate gears.
These trucks are equipped with a hydraulic clutch actuating system. They are self adjusting, unlike the all mechanical actuating systems of old.
Check at the bottom front of the bellhousing for any fliud leaking. Have you ever had to top up the clutch master cylinder reservoir?
You may be in for a new slave or master or both.
The next time the tranny balks on going into first, put the tranny in neutral and let the clutch out. Then put the clutch in and try putting the tranny in first. If it still balks, try pumping the clutch 2 or 3 times then go into first.
If you find that this works, you should need a master. Considering the fact that the master and slave are the same age, the slave will fail soon after the master is replaced.
The only variable here is that it is possible that the sleeve that the throw-out bearing rides on is in need of some lubrication. This will cause a little(or alot) of binding which in turn will not allow full travel of the throw-out bearing. Follow?
