So today I extended my kitchen and dining slide. But when it came time to retract they were dead.
Tried all switch and none work now either in or out.
Battery at 75% and when hooked up to the truck or shore power the results are the same. No nothing.
circuit breakers appear all fine. But I have one that will light red when you press any of the four slide buttons.
Flipped the circuit breakers, no change. But a 30 amp fuse, no change.
What do we think? the panel circuit box when you press any slide switch this light turns red close up of the panel with labels. I think that red one is a master for the slides?
If I press the buttons for the slides and the circuit turns red then it is not a swtich issue on the panel.
Rack and pinion or Schwintek slides? I had a Schwintek pinch the wires and short but my other slide motor was still functioning.
My kitchen/dining room slides are rack and pinion. They are hydraulic but still have an electronic controller. I would have to drop my underbelly to access anything to do with those slides.
rack and pinion using electric motors for all four slides. All of my motors are in the belly too,
My first thoughts were a short but since they are are all enclosed and have been in the same for 10 years, that makes no sense to me.
I did have to open up one access point for the dining slide, the pin came out of the manual mechanism to retract/extend the slide. Taking a look around did not reveal any issues.
I used an impact on low setting to extend the majority of the way then wrenched them open. Took some time but not that bad considering four slides.
I'd agree its electrical related. I had a similar circuit panel and those LEDs would light if the fuse was bad. Strange that it only lights up when trying to use the slides. I'd start with replacing the fuse that has the LED indicator lit.
I still think its electrical, since all four slides experience the same symptoms. On our 5th wheel we have a hydraulic slides and there is 100 amp breaker that protects them in the front bay. Does yours have a similar breaker? I know you said batteries were at 75%, but how was that determined? The slides can put a heavy current draw when being operated, so maybe your battery is having an issue. I'd put a meter on the battery and watch for a large voltage drop when operating the slide.
I am going to look around in the basement to see if I can find anything wrong.
to the best of my knowledge, I only have the breaker box inside the trailer.
If it won't power them on shore power then starts to make me think the converter/charger could be involved. It should be able to take the 120VAC input from shore power and convert it to 12VDC to run the 12V items including the slides (and charge your battery). If the converter is going bad it might not be providing 12VDC for battery charging or 12V items. Couldn't tell if the breaker for the converter was on or not from your picture. It looked to be the one just below the AC breaker.
You could test the output of the converter as they are usually contained in the main breaker panel. Looks like it's the breaker just below the AC in your picture, but it was hard to tell if it was on.
With all the fuses you've found and confirmed to be good, it makes me think the battery and or the converter is falling short. To narrow it down, the voltage drop when activating the slide needs to be measured at the battery. Also measuring the output of the converter charging the battery when connected to shore power would be helpful to know. It's sounding like the battery can't provide enough current to operate the slides IMO.
well when I get home I can swap a spare battery in it and see if that works. I can also check the drop in voltage. Running out of ideas now. But short of taking the switch panel down (wife prohibits while camping, lol) will see where this goes when we get home.
In the mean time, hand cranking of the slides it is.
