Please help identify this Ford 302
I have a Ford 302 and I am trying to confirm what year range it is
Please me with the engine year (or year range) and the horsepower rating
it is a blue 302
it has a carburetor
it doesn't have a serpentine belt , (per-1979?)
The driver side valve cover gasket is vented.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Can you provide an overall engine bay picture?
If the motor isn't original to the vehicle there is no way to know exactly what it came from, but the general vintage can be determined from the engine block and cylinder head casting numbers. Block casting numbers are on the side of the block down by the starter, head casting numbers are either under the valve cover or on the lower side of the head depending on the vintage but the intake would have to be removed to see those.
Based on the fact it has a carb and v-belts but electronic ignition it's most likely to be a '70-80's motor, and an all stock motor of that era only made 130-150hp.
And the Duraspark has a very nice personality.

major leak from the front of the carb.
Not sure if this is a Ford factory carburetor
I can't find any easily distinguishable markings
looks like it may have been either remanufactured or built by national corporate.
it has a massive leak in the very front of the carburetor.
it looks to be coming from the gasket I in the front left of the last picture.
it needs a little starter fluid to start no electronics at all on the carburetor.
Thanks
The leak is from the accelerator pump, but you should go through and replace all the gaskets and seals. Once someone IDs the carb, get a rebuild kit, which should include a new pump diaphragm.
I had an old carb whose pump diaphragm had gotten stiff, probably from the alcohol used in modern gasoline, so that it would not actually pump when I opened the throttle, leading to major stumbling whenever I tried to accelerate. The new diaphragm that came in the rebuild kit I got was made from this green rubber, maybe it's more resistant to alcohol. It's been working for almost 10 years.

I just picked 1976 as it has a nice ring to it.
You can get a rebuild kit for that carb, and being close on the year is good enough as they were nearly all the same and the kit usually covers multiple versions.
That carb has the 1.21" venturi, which is one of the larger ones. You need all the oomph you can get.
The thing it's sitting on is the EGR. Those corrode and erode so be careful with it if you pull it off there.
You can remove it but then there's a bit of fiddling to be done. If it's not causing a problem it's probably best to leave it be until other items are tended to.
