4.0 trannys

I am new to this forum so don't beat me up, lol. How many people have had tranny problems with 4.0 4X4 Rangers? I used to tow quite a bit with mine, but within limits of what Ford says. I went through 3 transmissions within 15,000 miles. Is it me, or did I just get a lemon? I think I was towing just over 5,200 pounds.

It's my dads truck now. I wasn't impressed with the tranny, but I love the motor. For some reason though it does not like cheap fuel. It needs to have 93 or it knocks really bad.

I've owned two 98-newer Rangers now and never had a problem. I've never heard of anyone else having any trouble with 98+ auto. trannies either. So I assume they are fairly sturdy.

try cleaning you maf sensor as far as the knocking goes. mine started doing the same thing. i finally got around to cleaning the sensor and i havent had a chance to take it out on the highway but power deliver is alot more solid. and it runs strong right to red line now. as far as the trannys go i have the standard and i wish it had alittle less gear for towing.
