This is one of the reasons I now live in small town Wisconsin.
And if things don't change, the small towns will be just like the ones you try to stay away from. People flee cities, states, countries but bring the same mentalities with them that ultimately led from what they are leaving. (Not in all cases.) But at some point, people have got to push back and fix issues in their own areas instead of running off to others before there isn't anywhere left to run.
Bingo.
Also, Dear blue state people coming to red states (because your beautiful blue state now sucks to live in). Once in a Red state, Please stop voting for the same policies, party that turned your beautiful states into $hi! Holes. Dont be like a parasite...moving from host to host.
There have been a few threads that have discussed installation of Jimmy Jammers. They are effective in preventing a thief from easily unlocking the driver's door, but they don't stop the thief from easily breaking the window as in the case of the OP.
With Jimmy Jammers, you need to provide a means to get power to the battery without opening the hood in case the battery is too dead to operate the door locks.
I understand breaking a window is always a means for entry. But the F-series locking tumbler design allows for a very very very easy method to quickly enter with a pair of channel locks or plyers. No extra attention by breaking glass. Would look to many like someone just opening the door on their truck
Count the seconds it took the thief in post #26 to open the door. 2, maybe 3 seconds?
..... so the Jimmi Jammer would prevent this by removing the tumbler.
I think relocating the horn and wiring should be the first step, no matter what other method is used as a deterrent. That alone might even make some thieves move on.
Why install a camera? They’ll just steal that too. Get out of Cali!
Where should all the Cali and Texas residents go? 99% of these break in posts seem to be in Texas (including the video I posted, where it appears they didn't take the camera).
Edit-It's not a state wide issue in either states case. It appears to be certain cities. I'm for more serious effort and enforcement from police and prosecutors....or worse, but Ill keep that to myself.

I live in Central Texas.
Only like that in San Antonio. I wouldnt park my truck in San Antonio...even to go eat in a restaurant.
Hasn't always been like that.
A new development with new DA not prosecuting theft...and open borders.
Mexican cartels targeting HD trucks looking for guns. Much higher probability HD trucks have a gun inside.
**Per local San Antonio police reports. 100s of break-ins reported per day (not my assumptions and opinions).
Please dont move, stay where you are and vote to fix the problem. All moving does is bring urban problems to trouble free rural areas.
The only crime in my town used to be from the few delinquent townfolk that all us residents are well aware of and the police easily caught up with that very day if something happened. The last 10 years too many urban and suburban people have moved in trying to run away from the crime in those areas. They build these giant homes that dont fit in with the rural landscape, they have top of the line automobiles, RVs, boats, and just general toys that are on display from the street. Now at least twice a year we have a night where criminals from the cities come out and rob these homes and it trickles over to the next door neighbors that have lived here their entire life and dont have anything flashy on display to attract the undesirable people.
I don't agree with cameras. Say you get a clear shot of the perp. Cool. Now what? Call the cops? They come, take info and find the guy. Does it help? He doesn't have a dime you can get. Probably some lowlife who should be shot anyways but that is another story. Years ago, I had someone break into my truck and stole things including the cell phone. Idiot called Dad and we checked the call logs. Pretty cool. Dad denied everything and claimed it was a mistaken call 5 minutes long in the middle of the night. Well, called the cops again and after some work, we got him to court. Went to the court session and Dear Old Dad was now trying to get me to drop the charges. Way too late for that, Buddy. Long story short, I was made whole again by insurance. That extra bit I did? Probably waste court time and for what? Think the kid became a productive citizen? My money is against it. So install the cameras IF IT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER but understand this. It doesn't change anything that insurance won't make whole AT YOUR EXPENSE.
Lower your deductible and move to a better area. Keep moving till you die. I don't think you should stay and try to change anything. It won't change and it will just suck you down with it like a canoe next to the Titanic when it goes down.
You can get a carry permit now in CA. I'd start with that.
Easy to carry a gun. Pretty easy to shoot it at the range. Lets see if you are able and willing to use it on a real live person and he might have someone around. You might not be as good as a SEAL team member. Even if you are, are you sure you want to deal with any legal issues? If it is my life or the wife's life, no sweat. I'll worry about it. That truck will cost me quite a bit less to replace with the deductible.
