Grinding the paint of is fast and can be destructive. I'd never do it. if you do really watch the sharp edges you can screw them up fast. use a good flexible disc and be careful. plan on extra primer to fill the scratches, and ugly shrink back as well. in a year or two . I can usually tell you who used a grinder , metallics especially.

Don't linger in any one place to cause heat and warp.Get all the rust off,look close for rock chip rust as it will eventually come back through.Wipe down with phosphate before priming with something like Phix.Epoxy primer is nice but hard to lay on correctly...really tough to sand if you don't.
