Pretty sure my thermostat went and maybe my water pump. It was running cool last time I drove it. Now it's leaking a little around the hose to water pump connection. Haven't had the time to investigate too much.
If I do have to replace the thermostat, what else should I tackle?
If I have to replace the water pump, what else?
I've seen better oil pumps, straight up timing chains, and drive pulleys replaced while you're there.

I'd replace only what needs replacing. You can check the thermostat with a known good thermometer in a pot of water on your stove. Perhaps the leak in the hose to water pump connection may only be due to a loose clamp. Water pumps usually need replacing because the seal or bearing have failed. If the bearing is solid (& silent) and there is no leak, it may not need replacing. Impeller problems are less common. Oil pumps and timing chains are more involved. Drive pulleys usually don't fail.

My truck is your's twin. I assume you have a trailer special?
back on topic:
I recently did the T-stat and rad hozes on mine. I would recco you do the tstat unless you know it's history. cheap insurance (oh, but do check your new one prior to install just cause you never know....)
I used motorad 5200-180. I also drilled a 1/8" weep hole in mine prior to install. I'm using the victor reinz o-ring style water neck gasket for the first time. It's a dry fit which I like. I changed the bolts while I was in there as the old ones were a bit rusted. Use a steady draw torque (NO IMPACTS) to break those bolts free. Don't go hog wild torquing the water neck down. 10-12 lb-ft max for a grade 5 bolt.

VIN and wheelbase says just a regular Ranger. Good tips and was looking at that same HD Motorad you got. Couldn’t decide between HD and the Premium cause the fail-safe on “Premium” but would rather have the longevity of the HD.
